When the Flame burst forth into the stillness, it brought with it light, warmth... and life.
From within its shimmering heat came the souls that would form all we who walk this realm today,
All we who carry blazes alight within our bosoms, seeking growth, knowledge... and love.

For it is Fire, that bearer of heat, who sung Souls for the Lords,
Who first summoned Disparity into the murky quietude that came before.
For it was Fire who brought unto us our Dawn, and fades in calling to our coming Dusk.

Dark Souls OST - Battle of Stoicism

Dark Souls. I love it.
This is the first of four (most likely) tributes to the world of Dark Souls, each to be accompanied by an excerpt of a tale told by a long forgotten elder, half-Hollowed on the peak of some forgotten mountain, awaiting the next hero to come seeking the secrets of the ancient past.
(In other words, I'm really just retelling the premise of Dark Souls, as well as possible futures, in the words of someone who is only barely clinging to their sanity)

In this one, I decided halfway through that I wanted to capture both the light and dark of fire; the world is cast in an orange fog as flames rage beyond the horizon, silhouetting the million branches of ancient trees formed at the making of the world. The bearer of this burning blade is surrounded by the ever-falling embers, even as the power of primordial flame surges through her.
