Section 8 - Into the Shrieking Gloom by SquiddyTreat Section 8 - Into the Shrieking Gloom by SquiddyTreat
As the Nightmare endured, so too did the people of Earth -- the greater the assault, the stronger grew their will to resist.
The advance soldiers of Section 8 began to encounter remnants of the Earth's military and civilian populations, bringing some of them to the rare safe sites to await evacuation to orbit.
Those who remained had the fury of war behind their eyes, and fought alongside Section 8 to retake what was lost, to destroy what the Nightmares brought.

Two Steps From Hell - To Glory

The remains of the species are finally attempting to fight back, staggered after the terrifying storm brought by the invasion's start, but unwavering.

Since it's been asked several times already, yes -- that is a Spartan III, and yes that is a marine being attacked by the vampire. In this universe, Earth and the colonies from which Section 8 hails have developed almost totally independent of each other for a century or more, and their technology differs significantly.
This particular shot was very much inspired by my time in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Fun game, recommend it!), and I'm damn happy with how the entire scene turned out.
Except the crawler in the shadow on the left. I hate him, because he just didn't want to cooperate when it came time to edit.

Thanks ~Ihavenoname323 for the title idea.

What's the guy in the middle?

That's pretty vague. There's a bunch of guys in the middle.
On the left of the middle is a Halo: Reach Spartan, on the right of the middle is a Section 8 Aegis unit, in the middle background is a vampire grabbing a female Halo: Reach marine.

No problem at all! I love things like this in GMod, always interesting to think what might happen if certain video-game universes collided :la:

There are dynamic lights in the unedited, they're just for the moonlight.

I take several shots and composite them all together for the final scene:
Direct Lighting (one for each light), ambient lighting (one for each light), emissive lighting (glow and such), fog, and chroma-keyed (greenscreen) shots to smooth out the process.
Typically, I don't activate lights for gunshots and such for the original image, because they'll often wash the entire thing out and you'll lose most of the good detail.

There are just a few exceptions for that, like Leviathan's Call and Qualification for Massacre.

So wait, you compose them all together. How exactly is that possible? Wouldn't one overwrite the other?

Of course not, that's what blending is for, because each shot is an additional layer (the PSD is over 200 MB :V).
Change the levels, blending modes, erase some parts here, blur some parts there. There's far more to it than just that, though.
It's quite a complex process when you get down to it.

LOL. Yeah. It was a shame about HG:L. It'd be nice to have the assets in Gmod, especially since I hear the game itself has become unplayable...It looked fun, though I've heard reports that it wasn't the case.

They were way too ambitious with it, it ended up being pretty much crap.
And sadly, the models are all pretty obviously dated now too.
